NeuroPharm study: EEG wakefulness regulation as a biomarker in MDD

While several electroencephalogram (EEG)-based biomarkers have been proposed as diagnostic or predictive tools in major depressive disorder (MDD), there is a clear lack of replication studies this field. Markers that link clinical features such disturbed wakefulness regulation MDD with neurophysiological patterns are particularly promising candidates for e.g., EEG-informed choices antidepressive treatment. We investigate if we an independent sample can replicate abnormal findings EEG-vigilance during rest and predictor treatment response. EEG-resting state was recorded 91 patients 35 healthy controls from the NeuroPharm trial. assessed using Vigilance Algorithm Leipzig (VIGALL). compared vigilance between remitters/responders non-remitters/non-responders after eight weeks SSRI/SNRI two different sets response criteria (NeuroPharm iSPOT-D). replicated previous showing hyperstable EEG-wakefulness comparison to subjects. Responders defined by iSPOT-D showed higher propensity toward low stages no at pretreatment, however, did not apply when criteria. normalized 8 This study supports value its usefulness biomarker choice MDD.
